When does the Year of the Goat start and end?

The Fire Goat year begins at Lunar New Year on February 6, 2027. It continues through January 25, 2028; January 1 is not the change of animal year. A child born earlier in 2027 may therefore belong to the preceding Horse year when using this folk zodiac convention.

Li Chun, the Start of Spring solar term, falls on February 4, 2027 at 09:46, UTC+8. A stem-branch year counted from Li Chun changes there, while the folk zodiac and New Year celebration change on February 6. Specify the boundary when comparing calendars. The Lantern Festival follows on February 20.

Years of the Goat: dates and elements

The animal repeats every twelve years; the stem and branch together repeat every sixty. Use the start and end dates below if a birthday falls near Lunar New Year. The element in the third column follows the heavenly stem, which is why 1967 and 2027 are both Fire Goat years.

Fire Goat: what the name means

Ding Wei combines the Ding heavenly stem with the Wei earthly branch. Ding has a traditional Fire association, while Wei is associated with Earth and the Goat. The name “Fire Goat” follows the stem; the year’s red and yellow-brown palette brings the two associations together.

There are ten stems and twelve branches, paired in a sixty-year cycle. Returning from 1967 to 2027 repeats Ding Wei, while a Goat born in another Goat year shares the animal without necessarily sharing its stem. That gives a sixty-year birthday and a twelve-year zodiac return different places in family celebrations.

Goat imagery also appears in Chinese art. The familiar three-goat motif uses the sound of yang to express an auspicious beginning. The Palace Museum sources retained below explore these artistic associations. For a gift, the motif can be a connection to the recipient’s birth year as well as a reason to choose a design they enjoy wearing.

Tai Sui in 2027: two folk-custom lists

Hong Kong and Macau folk lists commonly name Goat, Ox, Dog and Rat. Goat is the year’s own branch, Ox is the opposing branch, Dog appears under punishment and break, and Rat under harm. Taiwan temple lists commonly name Goat as the zodiac year, Ox as the main clash, and Dragon and Dog as minor clashes.

These lists reflect folk customs in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and are shared for cultural interest only, not as a prediction.

2027 lucky colors: red and warm yellow-brown

Red follows Ding’s Fire association; warm yellow-brown follows Wei’s Earth association. An animal’s own branch color can sit beside one of these year colors: a dark bracelet beside a red one, for example, or a white bracelet beside warm brown. The 2027 lucky-colors guide sets out all twelve pairings.
