Ten Gods: Ten Relationships to the Day Master

The Ten Gods are ten relationship names around the Day Master, not ten religious deities. Five element relationships are divided by matching or opposite polarity to produce the ten labels.

Five relationships become ten names

Relative to the Day Master as me, another element may be the same, be produced by me, be controlled by me, control me or produce me. Each of these five relationships has a same-polarity and opposite-polarity form. This is the core logic behind the names.

Terms such as Wealth, Officer and Resource carry a traditional social vocabulary, but in a chart they first identify relationships. The same stem changes its label under another Day Master; it is not permanently one particular Ten God.

A Jia Wood example

This table uses yang Wood, Jia, as its reference and shows common Zi Ping relationship names. It is a learning example rather than a personal chart. In an actual reading, the reference must be the correct day stem.

Jia Wood produces Bing Fire and both are yang, so Bing is Eating God. Jia also produces Ding Fire, but their polarity differs, giving Hurting Officer. Both are Output relationships with different labels.

Reading the five groups

Friend and Rob Wealth form the Companion group; Eating God and Hurting Officer form Output; the two Wealth labels form Wealth; Direct Officer and Seven Killings form the Officer or Influence group; the two Resource labels form Resource. These groupings help explain shorthand in articles.

A label is not one fixed event. Direct Wealth does not guarantee a salary, Indirect Wealth is not a promise of gambling success, and Seven Killings should not be read literally as violence. Position, season and the complete arrangement provide the conditions for interpretation.

Modern courses may use different English group names. When comparing explanations, map each word to the underlying element relationship rather than assuming the translations define separate systems.

Visible and hidden stems

A chart may label Ten Gods both for visible stems and for stems traditionally assigned within branches. Several labels beneath one branch often describe its several hidden stems rather than extra birth characters.

Visible and hidden relationships are not necessarily treated as equal counts in traditional analysis. Position, seasonal setting and whether a stem is expressed in the upper row can matter. Counting one label alone does not complete the reading.

Names are not automatic judgments

Direct Officer and Direct Resource may sound favorable, while Hurting Officer or Rob Wealth sound alarming. The tone of the translated name does not make it universally good or bad in every chart. Traditional discussions consider combinations and the conditions under which they operate.

Useful questions are: which Day Master is the reference, where does the label appear and what other relationships are present? Those questions turn a name into an understandable structure instead of a context-free good-fortune or bad-fortune statement.

Connecting the vocabulary with a real question

Ten Gods language can organize traditional discussion of work, learning, relationships and resources. Real decisions still need the actual circumstances. An Output label does not automatically select a career, and a Wealth label does not evaluate income or risk.

Personal bead design concerns favorable elements and the whole composition rather than assigning one universal stone to each Ten God. A career or affinity intention can be connected to material preferences after the fuller chart discussion.

Questions & answers

Does a Resource label identify a specific family member?

Classical texts use kinship analogies within their historical context. A modern reading should not judge a real family member from one label alone. Begin with its producing-me relationship.

Is a chart better if all ten labels appear?

Completeness is not an independent quality score. Traditional interpretation concerns how the relationships operate together, not collecting all ten names.

Does the English word Gods make this a religious practice?

In this context it is a conventional translation for relationship terminology, not a requirement to worship ten deities.

Bring the term back to your question

If you have a chart, ask about the specific Ten Gods fields you want to understand. A personal composition can then consider favorable elements, annual intentions and wearing preferences.
