Authority with a protective role
The Met’s Tiger exhibition describes tiger imagery on ritual bronzes, military tallies and textiles, alongside protective associations in folklore. The animal image can therefore carry ideas of courage, dignity and steadiness as well as identifying a year.
A Tiger-year gift might celebrate the courage to begin or the resolve to stay with a task. Bravery need not mean haste, and protection need not require a dramatic animal carving. Jade, dark stones and tiger’s-eye offer different material expressions.
Tiger years and their stem elements
The table names Gregorian years in which lunar Tiger years begin. Folk reckoning commonly changes at Lunar New Year rather than January 1, so early-year births need the specific boundary checked.
Yin has a traditional Wood association, while Metal Tiger and Water Tiger take their element from the heavenly stem. Thus 2010 Geng-Yin is Metal Tiger, 2022 Ren-Yin Water Tiger and 2034 Jia-Yin Wood Tiger. These are different layers from personal favorable elements.

White Tiger, Metal Tiger and tiger’s-eye
The White Tiger belongs to traditional directional and celestial imagery. It should not simply be treated as another name for a single birth year. Metal Tiger usually refers to a Metal heavenly stem paired with Yin. A cultural association between white and Metal does not make every use of White Tiger a birth-year designation.
White Tiger can also appear in other metaphysical terminology. The context needs to establish which system is being discussed. A zodiac branch, a directional figure and another symbolic name cannot be merged just because all mention a tiger.
Tiger’s-eye, meanwhile, is a material name related to its visual sheen. It is not reserved for Tiger-year wearers. Color, composition and a career intention can all explain its appeal, while personal BaZi work considers favorable elements and luck cycles.
Tiger–Pig harmony and the Tiger–Horse–Dog group
San Ming Tong Hui describes Yin–Hai as a six-harmony pair and Yin–Wu–Xu as a three-harmony group. These correspond to Tiger–Pig and Tiger–Horse–Dog. They form one layer of traditional relationship language rather than a complete personal judgment.

Yin–Shen is the Tiger–Monkey clash. A year-branch clash does not by itself decide whether two people can work together or marry; harmony does not remove the need for understanding either. Other chart components and actual relationships matter.
The 2027 branch Wei does not form a direct six-harmony pair or six-clash with Yin. That absence is not a basis for one universal lucky-year score. The annual Tiger page places the traditional relationship within a more specific discussion.
A clear boundary and a courageous wish
Lunar New Year and the common BaZi Li Chun boundary answer different questions. HKO lists Li Chun 2027 at February 4, 09:46, and Lunar New Year on February 6, in Hong Kong time, UTC+8. A birth between them can receive different year labels depending on the convention.
An overseas birth also needs its original timezone and place retained, especially near the solar-term moment. The table is a year reference; a particular birth still needs its original record and chosen boundary checked.
A gift can focus on courage for study, professional resolve or a wish for protection. Existing bracelets are organized by those intentions, without implying stocked Tiger carvings. Custom work relates the chosen materials to the birth-chart energy pattern and annual wishes.
Questions & answers
Is White Tiger identical to the 2010 Metal Tiger?
No direct equivalence should be assumed. Metal Tiger describes Geng-Yin, while White Tiger may name a directional figure or another term whose context matters.
When is the next Tiger year?
After 2022 comes 2034 Jia-Yin, a Wood-stem year. Its folk zodiac year begins at Lunar New Year, not January 1.
Must a Tiger wear tiger’s-eye?
No. It is a material name. Favorable elements, the wish and wearing preferences can guide a personal choice.
Can Tiger and Monkey still have a good relationship?
The Yin–Shen clash is a traditional term, not a single-factor verdict about a real relationship. Complete information is needed.
