A jade hound and a gift of companionship
A Smithsonian jade hound presents an alert, composed animal, and the museum notes a possible connection with Dog-year gifting. A small sculpture can therefore be both an object to appreciate and a remembrance. Zodiac culture includes the ways people give wishes to one another.
Loyalty and protection can express concern for family, friendship or a new chapter together. They need not require Dog-year people to care for everyone else at their own expense. A meaningful intention can also respect the wearer’s own rhythm and boundaries.
Dog years and heavenly-stem elements
The table gives Gregorian years in which lunar Dog years begin. Folk reckoning commonly changes at Lunar New Year. January and February births need the exact date checked, since the whole Gregorian year need not share one animal.
Xu has a traditional Earth association, while the labels follow the stem. The years 1970 and 2030 Geng-Xu are Metal Dog, 1982 Ren-Xu Water, 1994 Jia-Xu Wood, 2006 Bing-Xu Fire and 2018 Wu-Xu Earth. They are distinct from a personal Day Master or favorable element.

Year labels do not supply a complete personality
Geng contributes Metal and Jia Wood, while Xu remains the Dog branch. Different elements at different levels are not contradictory. A full BaZi chart also considers season, Day Master and birth time rather than deriving a person’s character from one stem.
Metal Dog and Wood Dog personality descriptions are best read as traditional imagery, not an explanation for every decision a person makes. People sharing an animal year may prefer very different colors, work and lives. A thoughtful gift begins with knowing its recipient.
A personal design uses the complete energy pattern, favorable elements and luck cycles. Dark obsidian, warmer jade or a pale moonstone pairing can express different forms of protection, with actual materials chosen for the full composition.
Rabbit–Dog harmony and the Tiger–Horse–Dog group
Mao–Xu is the Rabbit–Dog pair, Yin–Wu–Xu the Tiger–Horse–Dog group and Chen–Xu the Dragon–Dog clash. San Ming Tong Hui treats these as branch relationships rather than complete compatibility results from two animal names.

In 2027, Wei also brings Xu into discussions of the Chou–Wei–Xu punishment group. Traditions differ in their conditions and application, so more chart information is needed. The annual page explains that cultural background without making one difficulty inevitable for every Dog-year reader.
Partnerships also require actual relationship information. Harmony can carry a wish for shared purpose, while a clash should not make the final decision for two people. Listening and appropriate responsibilities give a protection intention a practical place in daily life.
The next Dog year and a birthday check
The next Dog year after 2018 is 2030 Geng-Xu, repeating the complete designation of 1970 after sixty years. The folk year begins at Lunar New Year, while exact age follows a person’s birthday. These are separate measurements.
Begin a Dog birth-year check with the relevant row—1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 or 2018—then check the actual birthday against the boundary being used. A four-digit year on a document is only the starting point. Folk animal years usually follow Lunar New Year, while a BaZi year pillar commonly follows Li Chun. For a personal birthday design, keep the calendar type, original local birth time and birthplace together, so the favorable-element discussion begins with the wearer’s own record.
A gift can focus on family harmony, safe travel or steadfast work. Existing bracelets follow actual materials and intentions rather than implying stocked Dog-shaped accessories. A personal composition connects the wish with favorable elements and annual context.
Protection can also be a gift to yourself. Comfortable bead size, a color you enjoy and accurately named materials can remain useful companions long after the occasion.
Questions & answers
Is 2030 the next Dog year?
Yes, Geng-Xu, a Metal-stem Dog year. Folk reckoning begins at its Lunar New Year rather than January 1.
Does Metal Dog mean a person is only Metal?
No. Metal describes Geng, while Xu has an Earth association. Month, day and hour add further information.
Does the Dog–Dragon clash prevent cooperation?
It is one traditional relationship, not a substitute for complete birth information, actual skills and mutual trust.
Must a protection bracelet include a Dog shape?
No. An animal motif and an intention-led material design are different ways to express a wish. Favorable elements and comfort also matter.
