The same grid can show different layers
Xuan Kong Flying Stars is a Feng Shui method combining space and time. Its numbers one to nine represent stars and elemental associations within that system. They are not visible astronomical objects or scores awarded to rooms. The grid alone does not identify the diagram’s purpose.
A property chart requires the building information and orientation used by the chosen method. An annual diagram describes a year, while a monthly diagram adds a shorter period. Several numbers in one sector can therefore represent different layers rather than a mistake.
Read the title first: property chart, annual chart, monthly chart or a basic Lo Shu illustration. Keep the label attached to the numbers, including when saving a diagram on a phone.
Period 9 is not the annual chart
A common Three Cycles and Nine Periods framework uses twenty-year periods; Period 9 refers to the 2024–2043 era. Annual stars have their own distribution. The current period does not mean that star nine occupies the center every year or that all properties acquire an identical Period 9 natal chart.

The date used for a property can involve construction, completion, occupation or particular renovation conditions, depending on the method. A recent repainting date alone may not establish that basis. With an older building, distinguish known records from uncertain history.
For an introductory reading, keep the longer background and annual change separate. A more specific interpretation adds the property, external setting and actual use of its rooms.
A dated 2026 position reference
The following positions are taken from the reviewed public 2026 reference and describe only the annual layer. They are listed by direction so the choice of north-up or south-up page layout does not alter the meaning.

Keep real direction when using the floor plan
Mark the north reference, dwelling boundary, doors, windows and principal rooms. Then identify sectors according to the chosen mapping method. South on an annual compass chart is an actual direction, not the top of a plan viewed from the entrance. An entrance-aligned wealth map should not be substituted silently.

The same sector might contain a bedroom, passage or storage area in different homes. The shared annual number does not give those rooms identical uses. Furniture, ventilation, lighting and fixed installations still have practical roles.
For example, a reading desk in a sector under discussion still needs a workable position. Its property-chart relationships and surroundings can be considered without moving it automatically into poor light or a blocked route simply because another number seems preferable.
Meaning depends on relationships and timing
Interpretations associate numbers with themes such as career, learning, prosperity or relationships, while elemental relationships and period influence how they are read. A star’s name is not a statement that a particular event must happen. Combinations need to be interpreted within a consistent method.
Online advice to add metal or water is a simplified expression. An actual room also has existing materials, occupants and maintenance conditions. A fountain brings sound and cleaning requirements; a metal object has a size and base. A label alone cannot make either suitable.
Separate the reason for an interpretation from the choice of object. The first explains the relationship being considered; the second concerns the real arrangement. A dramatic prediction without a dated chart and clear directions offers little basis for a decision.
Keep the year and boundary with the chart
Search results include diagrams from 2021, 2022 and other years. They can remain useful for learning how annual positions change, but their dates must stay visible. A previous diagram cannot become current through a changed title.
Annual Xuan Kong practice commonly uses the Start of Spring solar term as its boundary. A date close to the change requires the relevant calendrical instant and time zone, rather than an assumed January 1 switch. This is also distinct from a Lunar New Year zodiac convention.
Bring the property’s facing direction, construction or major-renovation date, plan and use to a consultation so the house chart and annual Flying Stars can be considered together. For a broader annual intention, read the relevant year guide and identify the spaces that matter most to your household.
Questions & answers
Does every home switch to a Period 9 chart?
No. The current period, the date basis used for the property and the annual layer have different roles.
Can one annual number decide where to move the bed?
Not on its own. The property chart, room use and feasible arrangement also matter.
Can I keep an old annual chart?
Yes, as a dated learning reference. Do not treat its distribution as the current year.
